2004 Canadian Prince Philip Games "A" ChampionshipThe BC Lower Mainland Region and Southlands Riding Club in South Vancouver hosted the 2004 Canadian Prince Philip Games "A" Championship on Saturday, September 11, 2004. Teams from across the country have been involved in practices and competitions since April to qualify to represent their Regions and their Zone at this year's Championships. The Pacific Zone was represented by two teams, East Maple Ridge and Campbell Valley Pony Clubs from the BC Lower Mainland Region. Central Canada was represented by the team from the Mill Ridge Pony Club from the Western Ontario Region. Strathcona Pony Club from the Alberta North Region was the representative from the Prairie Zone. The weekend began with a Meet and Greet at Southlands on Friday, September 10th. At the Meet & Greet, rules regarding the games were clarified and coaches and riders were given information about each of the ponies they would be using. They were also able to view and ask questions about the equipment that would be used. The games were held under clear skies on Saturday, September 11th, and began at 10:00. Four sets of five races were run, with a different set of pool ponies for each team for each set of races. Teams were allowed a 10 minute warm up with the ponies prior to beginning the set of races. At the conclusion of the day, East Maple Ridge Pony Club placed 1st. They were followed closely by Campbell Valley Pony Club. Strathcona Pony Club placed 3rd and Mill Ridge 4th. Strathcona Pony Club was awarded the Sportsmanship Trophy. Following the event, all riders, coaches, chaperones and many parent volunteers enjoyed an evening together at the Spaghetti Factory in Historic Gastown in Vancouver. Many thanks to the BCLM Region for hosting the event and to the many people who lent their time, effort and help to organize and run the championships, including the pony owners who supplied 23 ponies for the event.
